#005// Dust.

If the last few weeks have taught us anything, it’s that progress can be messy. Dust clings to the air, beams are exposed, and tools sit in temporary homes. But amidst the chaos, there’s an unmistakable buzz of growth, change, and a bright future taking shape.

Clearing out the old stable next door marked the first big step in this phase of the Rushbrooke workshop expansion. This space, once brimming with relics of the past, has been swept clean and is ready to be transformed into something entirely new. Its charm remains intact, with sturdy timbers and a character that’s hard to replicate. What it will soon house, however, is purpose-built – a dedicated grinding room that will bring new efficiency, flow, and intention to our work.

Last week, the process stepped up a gear. The old grinding room, tucked within the existing workshop, has come down – opening up the space, filling it with light, and creating a more open, collaborative environment. And today, we cut the first new doorway between the two spaces. For the first time, the old stable and the existing workshop are connected, and it’s already clear how much this change will elevate what we do.

What’s happening here is about more than just logistics – it’s about laying the foundations for the future. Every decision, from clearing out the stable to choosing where the machinery will sit, is made with intention. It’s not about rushing to grow, but about growing well: creating a space that reflects the care, thought, and craft that goes into every Rushbrooke knife.

This new chapter is as much about holding onto the heritage of this place as it is about evolving. We’re honouring the history of the stable block while giving it a fresh purpose – a fitting parallel to the Rushbrooke Knife Company itself.

There’s still much to do, and the dust isn’t settling just yet, but as these walls are reimagined and this space comes together, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation—

This is where Rushbrooke knives will take shape.
